Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Jackery South Africa collects, why we collect it, and the rights you have under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and the EU GDPR.

1. Who we are

Jackery South Africa (Pty) Ltd (“Jackery South Africa”, “we”, “us”) is the official distributor of Jackery products in South Africa. We operate the website at darklight.homes and process orders submitted through WhatsApp and email. We are the “responsible party” for the personal information you share with us.

2. Information we collect

We only collect the information needed to fulfil your order and respond to your enquiry:

  • Order details: name, phone number, email (if provided), delivery address, and order notes you type into the order form.
  • Cart & browsing data: the contents of your cart, stored locally in your browser, and standard analytics data (page views, device type, referral source) if analytics are enabled.
  • Communications: the content of WhatsApp messages and emails you send us when placing an order or asking for support.
  • Consent records: your cookie/privacy consent choice, stored locally in your browser.

We do not process online payments on this website and we do not collect or store payment card details.

3. How we use your information

  • To confirm, prepare, and deliver your order via WhatsApp or email.
  • To quote delivery times and arrange door-to-door delivery with our courier, The Courier Guy.
  • To provide after-sales support, warranty service, and product guidance.
  • To respond to your enquiries and complaints.
  • To measure and improve our website using aggregated, anonymised analytics.
  • To comply with our legal obligations under South African law.

We process your information on the legal bases of contract (to fulfil your order), consent (for optional analytics and marketing, where applicable), and our legitimate interests (to operate and improve our business), as required by POPIA and GDPR.

4. Sharing your information

We share your personal information only with service providers who help us run our business, and only as needed:

  • The Courier Guy — to deliver your order (we share your name, phone number, and delivery address).
  • WhatsApp / Meta — when you contact us or submit an order via WhatsApp.
  • Email provider — to receive and respond to order emails.
  • Analytics providers (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel) — only if enabled and only with consent, using aggregated/anonymised data where possible.

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose it where required by law or to protect our rights, customers, or the public.

5. International transfers

WhatsApp, Meta, Google, and our email provider may process data outside of South Africa. We rely on providers that offer safeguards such as standard contractual clauses and only transfer the minimum information needed to provide their service.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and local storage entries to operate the site:

  • Essential: your cart (jackery_cart) and your cookie consent choice (jackery_cookie_consent), stored in your browser. These are required for the site to work.
  • Analytics & advertising: Google Analytics and Meta Pixel cookies are only set after you give consent via the cookie banner.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by clearing your cookies or using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer.

7. How long we keep your data

We keep order and enquiry records for as long as needed to provide warranty support (up to 2 years after your warranty expires) and to meet legal and tax record-keeping requirements (typically 5 years). After that, we delete or anonymise your information.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information. Order details are transmitted over WhatsApp and email rather than stored in a central database on this website, which limits our exposure. No method of transmission is fully secure, but we work to protect your data.

9. Your rights

Under POPIA and GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Request deletion of your personal information (“right to be forgotten”), subject to legal retention duties.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent for analytics and marketing at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint with the South African Information Regulator (www.informationregulator.org.za) or your local data protection authority.

10. Children

Our website is not directed at children under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has shared information with us, please contact us so we can delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes will be highlighted on our homepage or communicated directly where possible.
